Children’s Training Programs

The Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People requires that children and youth be taught how to create and maintain a safe environment as it relates to child sexual abuse. To be compliant children and youth need to be taught specifically how to protect themselves from sexual abuse from a variety of people - from relatives and friends to strangers. In high school is important to include sexual abuse by known adults -- i.e. parents, coaches, relatives, friend’s parents, etc. - in the curriculum. While we realize some of these programs may not be as appropriate for your students as others, we encourage you to incorporate an additional component of sexual abuse prevention by adults into your curriculum, or to seek an existing program which does. The most effective programs teach skills over multiple sessions, provide opportunities to practice the skills, and include parental involvement. These programs meet that criteria.
